The story

A peasant boy is trafficked to Renaissance Venice, where he gains extraordinary abilities through an encounter with a real mentor who initates him to the world.

The philosophy

The mentor figure represents one of mythology’s oldest archetypes: the older guide who transforms the young traveler through intimate transmission rather than instruction. Athena mentoring Telemachus, the Fairy Godmother equipping Cinderella, Merlin shaping the young Arthur—all deliver the initiate into a new self, not through teaching but through relationship, and their gift always carries a cost or a boundary. This tradition includes its darker twin: Circe, who transforms men she captivates, and the European vampire, who “turns” a beautiful youth into a being like itself—an initiation that is both corruption and liberation, seduction and parenthood in a single act. This song places the encounter in that tradition: the hero meets the transformative feminine, and whether she is cage or open window is left to the listener.
