The story
A party chases oblivion on an endless voyage with a bossa nova soundtrack. Each crash onto reality only pulls them back into the cycle—until the highs fade, leaving silence.
The philosophy
The ship is one of humanity’s oldest vehicles for crossing the boundary between worlds: Charon ferries souls across the river between the living and the dead, Sinbad sails beyond every mapped edge, and the Flying Dutchman’s cursed vessel is doomed never to make port. In dream symbolism they all rest on the same image — the vessel navigating a sea that represents the unconscious itself: the source of life and all possibilities, the maternal depth where consciousness meets what lies beneath it. The ship above the waterline is the rational mind; below it, everything hidden. “Love Boat” sets sail squarely in this tradition: “liquids on the rocks” and “fluids in our veins” plunge the travelers into immersion and abandon, while “solid grounds” and “straight directions” — the architecture of conscious life — are explicitly declined. But this crossing is a young man’s crossing. The ship sails the surface, laughs at its own reflection, and never once lowers anything into the deep.
